Digipak LIIAR Analysis

Here is an analysis of an already existing digipak from the Indie Rock genre. I chose to analyse the conventions used in The Kooks’ Inside In Outside Out digipak, as I feel that it is very conventional to it’s genre and is what a person would expect from an Indie Rock digipak.

Conventions of a Indie Rock Digipak

Along with the generic codes and conventions of digipaks, I analysed Indie Rock digipaks as my genre is Indie Rock. I did this as it helped me understand digipaks in more depth and allowed me to know the basics of what to and what not to include in my own digipak. Below you will find my analysis of the codes and conventions of an Indie Rock digipak:

Here is a small moodboard of existing Indie Rock front covers of digipaks:

Conventions of a Digipak

Before creating my own digipak, I needed to research into the conventions of one, to aid me in creating my own. I first decided to research the conventions of all digipaks in general, so that I could gain a basic understanding of what went into one. Below is my powerpoint on the conventions of digipaks:

Demographics & Psychographics Research

MY SURVEY

Part of identifying my target audience was creating a survey to find out more about them and their demographics/psychographics. Below you will find the questions from my survey. I asked things like their age, gender and working status which were all essential to understanding the demographics. To contribute to their psychographics, I asked questions like their preferred genre, style of music video, and favourite music artists and bands. I used Survey Monkey to create my survey as I have used it in my previous year of Media Studies, so I am familiar with it and know how to use it. I also used it as it offers a lot of variety in the way that you receive responses.

DISTRIBUTING MY SURVEY

After creating my survey, I obviously had to distribute it so that I could gain responses.
Survey Monkey offers ways of distribution, as seen in the below picture.

I chose to use several social media platforms to promote my survey. Web 2.0 has massively increased the amount of people using the internet, and it has also made access to web pages easier. By posting a link to my survey, all the audience had to do was click on it, and they had instant access to my survey. I chose to post my survey link to facebook, twitter and tumblr. On each of these platforms I had a variety of different followers and friends. On Facebook I had a combination of friends and family, so I had all different age groups. I chose to post my link to Tumblr as it would have a completely different audience to my Facebook and Twitter links. My followers on Tumblr are from different countries around the world and mainly teenagers. This differs from my Facebook audience as they are people that I know from school, college and family. Therefore they are all in similar locations, other than family that live across the world.

Next, I chose to email and text my link. This was easy as it could be sent to multiple people at once. Also, like when using social media, it was easy for the audience to access as all they had to do was click on the link and fill out the survey.

MY RESPONSES

After creating my survey, distributing it and collecting responses, I began to to analyse these responses. By analysing my responses, this allowed me to understand my target audience and categorise them, making it easier to target and appeal to them. I now know who my target audience is, and I can produce my audience profile. Here are my responses and my analysis of them:

Health and Safety Risk Assessment

Previous to filming, it is important to note that there are several risks that my cast and I will be exposed to. Each of these risks poses a threat to injury of one of ourselves, or potentially other people. I created this health and safety grid in order to identify any of these risks, before they have the possibility of happening. In this grid I have not only identified the actual risk, but who may be affected, how to reduce the risk and what measures to take if the hazard occurs.
